What is 'Couch to 5K' (C25K)?

Our Beginner Running sessions is a fitness plan for absolute beginners designed to get you 'Off the Couch' into leading a more active lifestyle. We offer a 10-week structured fitness plan commonly called 'Couch 2 5K' that involves 3 runs a week, with a day of rest in-between activity sessions and a different progressive schedule for each of the 10 weeks. Each week includes a coached session in small groups; where support, advice and motivation will be given to you by the experienced Live2Run4Fun running coaches. We have had over 75 men and women of all ages and abilities from Basingstoke and Tadley take up our C25K fitness programmes so far in 2018! 

Who is 'Couch to 5K' For?

C25K is for everyone. Whether you've never run before or if you just want to get more active, C25K is an easy way of getting fitter and healthier. Each participant receives their own training plan with helpful advice to support you through the 10 weeks

How does 'Couch to 5K' work?

Probably the biggest challenge that any new runner faces is not knowing how or where to start.  Often, when trying to exercise, we can overdo it, feel defeated and give up when just getting started. C25K works because it starts with a mix of running and walking to gradually build up your fitness and stamina to running continuously 5K (3 miles). The coached sessions by Live2Run4Fun also include simple mobility exercises to help develop core muscles and movement skills of agility, balance and co-ordination. We will help teach you the basics of running fitness, including warm-ups, running form, cool-down/stretches and injury prevention

What are the benefits?

There are many benefits from getting into running. For starters, its an easy way of improving your physical health. Running requires little equipment, but a good pair of comfortable running trainers that suit your foot type is ideal (we can provide advice on this). Running regulalrly will help improve the health of your heart and lungs. It can also help you lose weight, especially if combined with a healthy diet. There are also mental benefits of running. Taking on the challenge of a C25K can help boost your confidence and self belief; as you prove to yourself that you can set yourself a target and achieve a goal. Running regularly can also be a great stress reliever and has even been shown to treat depression
